| This is an illustration of the types of Encarwi-Bing
carburetors found on the Batavus Laura M48 engine. If you find errors either
in the text or content please email me with the details. It's involvement
and input from fellow Batavus owners that will make these pages a great
source of information for others. Click on photos to enlarge. WARNING:

The first experiment in trying to gain more performance
from your Batavus should be to take the air filter off the engine and test
drive it. In most cases the air filter is the number one 'restriction'
to the performance of the engine, and this goes for any brand of moped
on the market. If the engine can't breath, all the jetting in the world
won't make a difference. K&N realized this and has marketed a better
air filter to solve this problem. I don't endorse running your moped continuously
without an air filter, but to do it as a test shouldn't damage the engine.
I found a UNI foam filter, UP-4200 pod filter, that fit the carburetor
at the local motorcycle shop. If anyone can track down a K&N filter
that will fit between the carburetor and kick stand frame let me know.

There are three types of carburetors and two types of intakes used
on the Batavus. Identifying which one you have will help you decide which
route you can take to achieve a performance gain.
