Mopeds

This is my moped collection. Click on pictures to enlarge.
Updated: 9/05/02
The moped fleet is now up to five with the latest addition of a black Batavus VA.

My three moped fleet.

This is the oldest moped in the collection. It's a 1976  Batavus VA, 20 MPH version. This is my project moped and I'm in the process of restoring it. With the engine modifications, it runs between 35-40MPH.

This poor 1977 Batavus HS-50, 30 MPH version, gave it's life so the VA above could live. This is the shape it was in when I got it. It was stripped, but amazingly most of the parts I needed where intact. I now have a Bat. in the loft so to speak.

Two Bats in the fleet now. Both go 35 MPH. Some like Bi-turbo's, Some don't.
1977 Batavus VA with chopped seat and lower handle bars. Mint condition clutch and magneto covers.
Headlight with amber high beam indicator light. A rare complete tool box.

This is some of the information that I've collected on the Batavus moped.

The 'HOW TO' Series

I'm starting a HOW TO series on some of the modifications I've made to my Batavus. If anyone has suggestions that could make these modifications better, please email me and I will take them into consideration.

  • Adding a battery to your Batavus? Here's the wiring diagram with instructions.
  • Replacing the cup and cone rear wheel bearings with sealed bearings. (coming soon)
  • Shaving the head for better performance.
  • Modifying a Tomos 2 piece Bi-Turbo muffler to fit the Batavus.
  • The differences between the models of Encarwi carburetors and how to modify them for better performance.

Next in the family is a 1986 Puch Sport Maxi LS  2 Speed. It had 1400 miles on it when I got it and needed very little work to bring it back to showroom condition.

This is a 2000 Avanti Mont. Monto Motors bought the old Garelli tooling so this motor has been around for years. Being a single speed, it has some problems with the local hills, but runs up to 35 MPH on the flat.
If you would like to find an Avanti dealer near you look at this Avanti web site: Avanit Motorcycles
Here's the Mont with an Avanti 65cc kit and performance exhaust on it. It has more power and climbs hills better, but this is nothing compared to the Polini kit installed on the Autopower. (pictures of the Autopower install coming soon)

I bought an Avanti Autopower in May 2002. This now brings the moped collection up to 4 mopeds with 2 of them being Avanti's.
The purchase of this moped is a Cinderella story. A 72 year old man purchased this Autopower and managed to wreck it in the 20 miles he put on it. I purchased it for less then half of new price with only a damaged gas tank as pictured below. Don't we all wish we could find deals like this every day.
I'm having the gas tank repainted and am looking for some ideas of what graphics to paint on the side of the tank. E-mail me with your ideas.

This is the neighbor's 1983 Puch Sport MK II.
